You could try the Victoria and Albert Museum, just across the road from the Natural History. It's free, apart from special exhibitions, and is great for anything artsy. I think the N H Museum now has its winter ice rink set up; for the last couple of years it had some stalls adjacent to it, selling all kinds of things.

Somerset House at Aldwych also has an ice rink (my favourite), but you have to pay to get into their exhibitions.

Just behind Selfridges on Oxford Street is the Wallace Collection, a fairly small art gallery. They often have a small, free, special exhibition downstairs. It also has porcelain and armour, and some very famous paintings like "The Laughing Cavalier" by Hals.

V&A Museum of Childhood, Cambridge Heath Road E2 9PA
No matter how young or old you are you'll wander round there and find something that makes you say "I remember.." or "I had one.." And it's free.
