Trying to find info upon London nightlife around 1890. Was there the usual shutting time for pubs? Would anything be open after midnight?
Any leads would be severely appreciated!

The 1872 Licensing Act dictated that all pubs should close at midnight. However this wasn’t strictly adhered to (as can be seen during the Jack the Ripper cases).
Also there were many gentlemens clubs (in which you could spend the night if slightly the worse for wear) but these were restricted to the more middle to upper class clientele.
Let us also not forget the many brothels and bordellos especially in the east end.
Don’t know, but try this website. It has loads of fascinating information on all sorts of things victorian. If you don’t find what you are looking for, try emailing. I wanted some information on something and was given links to other places to look.
