this defo sounds like fraud. be careful, don’t give any personal details until your sure, it doesn’t even sound like a professional letter, landlords don’t usually behave that way. ive never had any letter like that from a landlord,
Don’t sign or pay deposit. Take it to an estate agent to show them.
Run away from that one!
ask them to prove they aren’t attempting to defraud you in some way by asking for the lawyer’s number and details. if they aren’t willing to give it up, or the name and number given don’t belong to a listed lawyer, then decline to participate. tell him you have the cash and you want the place, but you are not going to send your money off willy nilly just at the drop of a hat on someone’s word, same reason he supposedly doesn’t want to come into town without assurance.

I would be very careful about this, in fact I don’t think you should bother to go & view as it sounds really dodgy. Your best bet would be to do a google search for a letting agent in the area you want to move to. They will have a proper office and telephone number and staff to sort out any viewing, they will be able to show you a few places, so you can choose what you like, then be there to help, if there are any problems to sort out. Your deposit money will be put in the proper ‘deposit scheme’ so at the end of the tenancy, you will get a good chance to get your money back, or at least have a chance to query any charges. Don’t take any chances, it’s a lot of money to loose, when there are much safer ways to find a room. Good luck.
Definitely a fraud. When you are asked to send money in advance by Western Union, it is 100% a scam.
This is a well known SCAM. No Landlords in the UK ask for money this way. Whenever you see someone asking for money through Western Union it is always a scam. There have been many questions on here for months about this one.
