I believe they also have a few Holiday Inns and other affordable hotels in the south strip.

YOu can generally get excalibur as cheap as a Motel 6 they have rates from $29 per night per room its a good location and the hotel is fine.

I have tons of friends in Vegas and sometimes I dont feel like staying with them, so I always book through. They have awesome deals for rooms in Vegas. On the strip for pretty cheap and off the strip for even cheaper. Give them a try, you book everything through them and you pay upfront also. That way there is no confusion when you get to the hotel, you just print the confirmation and you are good to go. Make sure to read the customer reviews on each hotel you look at, very helpful.

I have to agree with the Orleans suggestion, it’s not within walking distance though(IMO) but they do have a free shuttle to the center of the strip.

& Expedia.com both have special rates for the Orleans, depending on when you need a room, you can get rates of $32 for the first night Sunday through Thursday, then the second night is free. Friday & Saturday nights are $49, second night free…You can book as many nights as you need, pay for 1 night get one free…The Orleans will price match these rates

IMO, the Orleans is far and away the best value hotel in Las Vegas…Tripadvisor.com has ranked the Orleans as high as the #2 “best value” hotel in the World…

The rooms are very nice, and over sized, plus they have always gone way out of their way to accommodate any special room requests we have…..

We booked 12 nights….total cost $209($17 avg per night)

    An alternative
This one is on Flamingo, behind Bally’s – Their suites are huge….

The ones downtown are usually cheaper (Four Queens, Fitzgeralds). I have stayed at the Riviera before. It is at the end of the strip. The service was good, clean room and the people were nice. I would stay there again. We walked from there. You can also get an all day bus pass for $5. We just got a bus pass and went to the other end of the strip. LasVegas.com was helpful for planning our trip.

I live in Las Vegas your best bet to check rates is just go to put in the dates you will be here and they will give you all the prices to the hotels. I also just got a mailing today from the Palace Station Hotel which is on the strip for 49 midweek and 69 on Fri and Sat it says ask for operator M44.
Some of the hotels that other users suggested are nowhere near walking point from The Strip so double check the location if you look at any of those.
Also if you decide to go see a show in Vegas you can get half price tickets in advance to many shows on the Strip by going to this link.

We stayed at the Flamingo last year and it was very nice, on the strip and CHEAP! Check it out.

Have you checked ? You will find there the latest hotel promotions for several hotels located on the Las Vegas strip. Excalibur e.g. has some really good deals.

For price the Wild West on West Tropicanna. It will be the lowest price around. It is a motel and less than a mile to the strip. To find the best deals go to …

Find the best prices for the dates you select then go directly to the hotel website to see if they can beat the price.

Motel 6 on Tropicana near the airport. Right across from the MGM Grand.
